Car Degreaser - When you really need to clean thoroughly
Car degreaser is a somewhat broad term, as it covers several different products, each with its own function. We are not just talking about a powerful all-purpose cleaner (APC) here.
You'll find products in this category that can be used both for the interior and exterior. Degreasers are typically characterized by their ability to remove traffic film, ingrained dirt, and limescale spots, leaving your car with the cleanest paintwork.
So, if you have limescale spots on your car, or you just need to clean it thoroughly, perhaps after a winter period, this is where you'll find all the seriously powerful car care products.

When should I use a degreaser?
If you are going to post-treat your car, it is the perfect time to use a degreaser. Whether the car needs paint cleaning, new paint protection, or polishing, the time just before this is perfect.
A degreaser has several purposes, which are as follows:
- Thorough cleaning of heavily soiled areas, such as door jambs & engine bay
- Thorough cleaning before using a clay bar
- Thorough cleaning before using a polishing machine
- Thorough cleaning before applying new paint protection
In short, if it needs to be really clean, a degreaser is the right product for the job.
APC (All Purpose Cleaner)
All Purpose Cleaner is the car care industry's answer to a Swiss Army knife; it can be used for an incredible number of purposes, everything from removing heavy dirt both inside and out, as well as in the engine bay. You can therefore, as the name suggests, use it on a variety of surfaces.
You get a lot for your money when you acquire an APC, but like so many other things, there are often products dedicated to a specific task that can do it better, but on the other hand, they can only be used for single tasks, whereas an APC can be used for almost everything.
If you want one of the best APCs I have tried, APC Green from Shiny Garage is a fantastic choice; it works wonderfully and is concentrated, so you won't have to buy a new bottle shortly after, and it is REALLY cheap.
Citrus-based degreaser
Although citrus-based degreasers are fantastically good for cleaning, they are often not as strong as an APC. On the other hand, they are not as harsh on your car's paint protection and can still clean a lot.
They are available in both ready-to-use and concentrated variants, and here the concentrated one can be mixed to your desired strength. Use it as a pre-wash, in the engine bay, door jambs, or to combat insects.
Limescale remover
Limescale is very harmful to your car's paint, and this applies especially to the water we use from the house to wash our car. Regardless of whether you use a microfiber towel afterwards, it will be almost impossible to get all the water off, and if you are really unlucky, it will dry on the paint.
When it dries on the paint, all the minerals that were in the water are left behind, and many of them are harmful, especially limescale. Over time, it burns into the paint and can even become so permanent that neither limescale remover nor polishing can remove it.
Therefore, it is incredibly important to remove them as quickly as possible with a limescale remover, such as Spot Off from Shiny Garage.
