What is Microfiber/Microfiber?
Microfiber is a material blend based on Polyester and Polyamide. There are an incredible number of different variants within Microfiber, some of which use more Polyester than others.
As a general rule, most Microfiber cloths are based on a formula of 70-80% Polyester and 20-30% Polyamide.
However, they each have their own advantages, and they work perfectly together in harmony.
Polyester is the cheaper fiber, which is more robust, and works really well for scrubbing, including for interiors.
Polyamide is the more expensive fiber, which is more airy, soft and absorbent.
Microfiber quality
There are an incredible number of different qualities and varieties of microfiber. There are, among other things, the very cheap ones, which can actually risk scratching a painted surface in many cases.
It should be said, however, that most manufacturers that are sold and advertised to the car care industry are fortunately not among these. That is not to say that you cannot get your hands on a ''low-quality'' microfiber cloth, which is sometimes sold to car care enthusiasts.
However, I can assure you that at Bachs Bilpleje, you never have to worry about whether this is an option, because we only want to carry Premium and high quality Microfiber products that definitely will not scratch your car's paint.
However, there are variants that are very soft and are even better for very sensitive surfaces than the others.
What does GSM mean?
GSM is a term for how many grams per square meter a microfiber cloth contains. In English, this means Grams per Square Meter.
Should I choose a microfiber cloth or a microfiber towel?
It depends on what tasks your microfiber cloth or microfiber towel will be used for.
When we talk about microfiber cloths, they are covered under different categories, some are ''all-purpose'' cloths, they can do a little bit of everything, but are perhaps a little more in the middle of the scale when the tasks are specified a little more.
For example, an ''all-purpose'' microfiber cloth will be able to be used to remove polish, but another type will be much better at removing it, but will be poor for some other tasks.
This is also why there are microfiber towels, these are incredibly good at removing water from large and small surfaces. They are typically heavier in weight, and with a higher GSM.
Use different cloths for different tasks
Since there are different tasks that can be sensitive to dirt, and others where a little dirt and grime in a microfiber cloth doesn't matter much, it's also a really good idea to divide up your microfiber cloths.
This can be done, among other things, by using different colors, or completely different variants of microfiber cloths.
For example, when a cloth is used to clean engine compartments, door sills, tires or rims, it typically becomes significantly dirtier than when used for glass.
Therefore, it would be a bad idea to use the cloth to remove polish or wax in the future. This will also help you avoid scratching your car's paintwork as much as possible.
The different types of microfiber cloths
Within car care, there are an incredible number of different tasks that you can do on your car, everything from cleaning your glass surfaces to waxing, varnish sealing, polishing and cleaning your interior.
That's why there are an incredible number of different microfiber cloths, which are either designed to perform specific tasks or be an ''all-purpose'' cloth.
Since there are so many microfiber cloths available, it can quickly become very confusing which one is best for you.
