4 Quick Steps to Cleaning Car Mats
- Vacuum them thoroughly and remove loose dirt.
- Spray textile cleaner on the mats
- Scrub with an interior brush
- Use a microfiber cloth to scrub them clean.
- (Alternative) Use a carpet cleaner or garden hose to rinse them thoroughly
Why should I clean my car mats?
Cleaning your car mats is just as important as making sure your car is freshly washed. Although many people focus on vacuuming their cars, they often forget to maintain their car mats.
Dirt and grime stuck to your mats not only make them look ugly and tired, but they also wear out when your feet move on them, and in the worst case, they can start to smell.
There are several different methods, some with quite simple and straightforward steps, for the big clean where the carpet cleaner or garden hose is dragged out.
Thorough cleaning of car seats with carpet cleaner
A basic cleaning of your car seats can be done with a carpet cleaner, but when should you use a carpet cleaner?
If your seats are very dirty, with lots of stains, you will need to use a carpet cleaner. If your seats are dirty with a few stains, you can often get away with simply scrubbing them with fabric cleaner and removing it with a microfiber cloth.
Do the following when using carpet cleaners:
- Vacuum the car seats thoroughly and remove loose dirt.
- Spray textile cleaner (e.g. Carpet Cleaner ) directly onto the seat
- Let it sit for 3-5 minutes.
- Scrub with an interior brush
- Rinse thoroughly with a carpet cleaner, while simultaneously vacuuming up the liquid.
How do I dry my car seats after textile cleaning?
We always recommend that you dry your car seats and cabin after using a carpet cleaner. Our preferred method is to push one of the front seats back as far as possible and place a heater fan into the cabin at the feet.
Leave the windows cracked so the moisture can escape while it warms up, this may take several hours, depending on how wet your seats are.
Fabric Car waterproofing
After your car mats or car seats have been cleaned, it is a great idea to treat them with fabric impregnation.
It is incredibly easy to perform, and is actually the easiest part of the entire process.
However, this requires that the surface is completely dry, meaning it must not be damp at all.
- Spray directly onto the surface of the car mat or car seat, in even layers
- After a few minutes, use your hands (with rubber gloves) to spread it out.
- Let it dry for 6-12 hours
Cleaning the canopy
These are exactly the same principles that apply to cleaning the hood, but it should be said that you can use other products to achieve the same results.
If you just need to clean the hood and it is not green all over, the same principle applies to using Fabric Cleaner Shampoo or Carpet Cleaner.
If it is green all around, you can use Citrus Pre Cleaner.
Impregnation is exactly the same method.
