Leather care for car seats - Why do I need to maintain?
Even though the leather found in most cars today is a completely different type, and in some cases even a synthetic leather, it still needs to be cared for. Whether it's an older car from the 1970s or a new Tesla, it's a really good idea to give your leather surfaces leather care.
Leather can become dry and brittle if not cared for properly, or not at all. We leave oils and other dirt behind from our bodies, and to remove them, gentle methods are used, but they leave them dry, and therefore need to be treated with leather grease.
Many people even think that leather seats should look greasy when they are clean. In fact, it is just the opposite, they should be matte. So if your leather seats or surfaces look like this, they need some care.
In short - If you love your car, give its leather surfaces some love.
Leather cleaner for cars
Although you can use a general interior cleaner, I suggest you choose one that is specifically formulated to clean leather. It is specifically formulated so that it will not damage your leather.
My personal favorite is Leather Cleaner from Shiny Garage, and if that's not enough to clean your leather, it also comes in a professional version that is more powerful. Simply spray it on a leather brush , scrub the leather gently, then wipe with a microfiber cloth.
Maintain leather interior easily
Once your leather interior has been cleaned, it is actually very easy to maintain. You don't have to wait 6 months to 1 year before cleaning your leather interior again, maintain it regularly, and then you avoid the big cleaning of the leather.
It also means that the dirt is removed more often, so they stay cleaner and thus get better air.
Simply use a Leather Quick Detailer , it both cleans and conditions the leather, spray on a microfiber cloth, or directly on the leather surface, and wipe. It is especially a favorite at home, where I myself love leather over fabric.
Leather grease or synthetic leather care?
Whether you prefer traditional leather grease or the new-fashioned synthetic leather care products, you've come to the right place, and there is no wrong answer.
Newer types of leather are treated with a so-called ''top coat'', a bit like a car's paint is treated with clear coat to protect the color, so it is not actually the leather itself that we work directly on.
In cases with top coat, i.e. newer leather, it doesn't matter whether you choose one or the other, they will both work quite well.
If, on the other hand, you have a car with so-called ''old-fashioned leather'', where what you are working with is the leather, then I would always recommend using leather grease. In my opinion, this will give you the best results.
